The writing itch
As a kid, I was an avid reader and dreamed of writing a book one day.
The feeling faded, as such things do, but writing found its way into my life.
In college, my roommate and I published The Wonderland Times, an indie magazine with art, music, and various raging-against-the-machine subversion.
Years later, after burning out at an early Internet service provider, I published Boogie Pensacola, a popular arts-and-entertainment newspaper in Pensacola, Florida.
Though it only lasted a couple years, it helped me launch a new career as a copy editor, page designer, and occasional writer for a handful of daily newspapers in Florida and Georgia.
Eventually, I returned to the computer field as a software developer. Once I was able to work from home, I moved to the tourist resort of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and fell in love with the place.
I began reading about the town’s history, and couldn’t believe all the crazy happenings and interesting people packed into this little Ozark hamlet.
I started writing again. It was a hobby at first, just an itch to scratch. At some point, it became more. It was the best writing I’d ever done.
Now, the dream is back. I am happy to say that I am well on my way to finishing my first book, a mostly true history of America’s quirkiest town.
It’s going to be a blast, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
